(WNY News Now) – BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Buffalo man has been sentenced to more than two decades in prison for the fatal shooting of his co-worker inside a corner store in the city’s Broadway-Fillmore neighborhood.
Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced that Abdula Hussein, 27, was sentenced on March 31, 2026, before Erie County Court Judge Susan Eagan. Hussein received a determinate sentence of 22 years in prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision.

The sentencing stems from a shooting that occurred on February 21, 2023, at approximately 3:30 p.m. Buffalo Police responded to reports of gunfire at a corner store located on Broadway near Sears Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 62-year-old Tawfaik Alsheari deceased inside the business.
Authorities said Hussein, an employee at the store, shot his co-worker during the incident. He was taken into custody by police a short time later.
In January 2026, Hussein pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree manslaughter, a Class B violent felony. Prosecutors confirmed the plea satisfied the indictment in full, avoiding the need for a trial.
District Attorney Keane credited members of the Buffalo Police Department Homicide Squad, including Detectives Christopher Sterlace, Mark Costantino, and Adam Stephany, for their work in the investigation.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Briana R.D. Kalman of the Major Crimes Bureau and Chief Rebecca L. Schnirel of the Felony Trials Bureau.
