(WNY News Now) – JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — A Jamestown man was taken into custody early Saturday morning after police discovered he was allegedly violating an active order of protection during a traffic stop in the city’s downtown area.

According to the Jamestown Police Department, officers from the First Platoon conducted a traffic stop at approximately 6:59 a.m. on April 18, 2026, after observing a traffic infraction.

During the investigation, officers determined that the driver, identified as 32-year-old Jacob A. Matherly, was in the presence of a female passenger who was protected under a stay-away order of protection issued against him.

Police reported that Matherly was taken into custody without incident at the scene. He has been charged with Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree, along with a uniform traffic ticket related to the initial stop.

Matherly was transported to the Jamestown City Jail, where he is being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
