(WNY News Now) – BUFFALO, N.Y. — An Erie County grand jury has indicted a Buffalo man on multiple felony charges, including attempted murder and predatory sexual assault, following an alleged domestic violence incident that led to the shooting of a Buffalo police officer.
Minhaz Siddiqui, 33, was arraigned June 18 before State Supreme Court Justice Kelly Vacco on charges including first-degree attempted murder, predatory sexual assault, first-degree rape, second-degree assault, aggravated sexual abuse, and obstruction of breathing or blood circulation.
According to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, the charges stem from an incident that allegedly occurred between May 25 and May 26, 2026, inside a residence on Sherman Street in Buffalo. Prosecutors allege Siddiqui repeatedly assaulted a woman with various objects, forcibly engaged in sexual intercourse while threatening the use of a firearm, sexually abused the victim, and impeded her breathing by applying pressure to her neck.
Authorities further allege that Buffalo Police officers responded to a 911 domestic violence call at the residence on May 26 at approximately 2:07 p.m. While officers were attempting to place Siddiqui under arrest, he allegedly fired multiple shots from a concealed handgun, striking one officer.
Police returned fire, injuring Siddiqui. Officers immediately rendered aid before he was transported to Erie County Medical Center for treatment of gunshot wounds. The injured officer was also taken to ECMC and was hospitalized for one week with injuries to an upper arm and both legs.
Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane said his office conducted a review of the officer-involved shooting and determined the officers’ use of force was justified.
Siddiqui remains hospitalized and is being held without bail. A temporary order of protection remains in effect for the victim and witnesses. He is scheduled to return to court for a pre-trial conference on July 21, 2026.
If convicted of the most serious charge, Siddiqui could face a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole.
The allegations remain accusations, and Siddiqui is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
