NORTH EAST – The westbound lane of I-90 near North East, Pa. is closed following a multi-vehicle pileup between Exit 45 (Route 20, North East) and Exit 41 (Route 89, North East) Friday afternoon.

Crews from both New York State and Pennsylvania were dispatched just after noon to Mile Post 44.

PennDOT said the westbound lane between exit 45 and 41 is closed.

A number of cars, trucks, SUVs and tractor-trailers were involved. No word on injuries.

Heavy snow fall limited visibility in some areas of the Interstate earlier Friday.

Erie News Now is reporting that ambulances are staging at RT. 430 & I-90, and UPMC Hamot and St. Vincent Hospital have been put on alert for potential incoming patients due to the accident.

Officials remind drivers to use caution when traveling during winter weather, including reducing speeds and increasing following distances.

PennDOT reduced speed on I-90 and I-86 in Erie County to 45 miles per hour earlier Friday.
