JAMESTOWN – The Robert H. Jackson Center, in partnership with the SUNY Fredonia Department of Theatre and Dance, is hosting a 90-minute play read of “Some Brighter Distance” at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, April 6, at the Robert H. Jackson Center (305 E. 4 th Street, Jamestown, NY 14701) in the historic Cappa Theatre.
Doors will open for the performance at 7:00pm. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged. The public is welcome.
During the Cold War, German rocket scientist Arthur Rudolph was instrumental in helping America win the Space Race. Years later, it was discovered that Rudolph directed the German lab that produced the V-2 rocket in WWII and he was implicated in working thousands of slave laborers to death. Forced to confront his Nazi past, Rudolph renounced his U.S. citizenship and returned to Germany with his wife, where he faced prosecution.
Rudolph was the only scientist, among 1,500 hired by the U.S., who was ever prosecuted for war crimes. This time-bending play explores the true, untold story of President Truman’s “Operation Paperclip” and questions the cost of burying the past in pursuit of the future.
