WEST ELLICOTT – A community geared toward older residents in Chautauqua County is expanding.

David Smeltzer, the President and CEO of Heritage Ministries, says The Woodlands at 2000 Southwestern Dr. in West Ellicott offers a maintenance-free, no-hassle lifestyle for those entering retirement.

“The beauty of the development is that folks can age in place, we can provide some assistance from our assisted living facility for those who are residents here, but if they get to a point where they need a higher level of care then they can move over to the assisted living,” said Smeltzer.

Smeltzer explains that each build gives residents a unique opportunity to offer design input for either the one- or two-bedroom cottages.

“I consider it really one of the best last buildable pieces of property in Chautauqua County with all of the utilities included,” said Smeltzer.

In addition to a modern look of the homes, The Woodlands also brings residents closer to nature and to each other offering several amenities for social gatherings.

Smeltzer says one of the community’s new residents is already holding social and recreational events at the complex.

Additionally, the residents tend to come together in times of need.

“We had one resident who had a significant health emergency and one of the other families took her husband to the hospital, then watched over their apartment,” explained Smeltzer. “They do really function as a really close-knit community here.”

Over the next three to four years Smeltzer says more than a dozen new homes will be built.
