(WNY News Now) – Jamestown, NY – Michelle Henry, a trustee of the Chautauqua County Historical Society (CCHS), shared insights into valuable genealogical resources at the Fenton History Center’s recent conference.
Michelle Henry, a trustee of the Chautauqua County Historical Society (CCHS), recently delivered two informative presentations at the Fenton History Center’s genealogy conference. Highlighting the CCHS’s extensive collections, Henry emphasized the wealth of free resources available to genealogists on the society’s website. For those yet to be digitized, researchers can access collections by scheduling appointments at the McClurg Museum in Westfield, the CCHS’s base.
Established in 1883, the CCHS boasts a rich repository of documents, photographs, and ledgers dating back to the county’s earliest settlers and organizations. Henry’s second presentation focused on the wealth of records housed in local town and village offices, including vital records, meeting minutes, and tax assessments.
Beyond her role with the CCHS, Henry’s extensive involvement in historical preservation includes service on state boards and recognition for her contributions to local history and government records management. Alongside Pam Brown, the only other registered historian in Chautauqua County, Henry continues to champion the preservation of New York State’s historical legacy.
