(WNY News Now) – Niagara County – Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced today that a 38-year-old resident of Niagara Falls, has been sentenced to 70 years in prison for a series of violent felonies committed in 2022. Griggs, convicted by a jury in February, faced charges including attempted murder and assault, stemming from two separate incidents in Niagara Falls.

Curtis Griggs’ sentencing, handed down by County Court Judge Caroline Wojtaszek, marks the culmination of a lengthy legal process following his conviction earlier this year. The charges against him stem from two distinct incidents of violence perpetrated in 2022, each resulting in severe consequences for the victims involved.

On April 4, 2022, Griggs launched a vicious attack, attempting to murder and assault individuals using a high-powered rifle. For this incident, Judge Wojtaszek sentenced Griggs to 25 years for attempted murder and assault, with an additional 10 years for criminal possession of a weapon.

Further exacerbating the severity of his crimes, Griggs committed a second set of offenses on July 9, 2022, again involving attempted murder and assault with a weapon. In response, Judge Wojtaszek imposed an identical sentence of 25 years for attempted murder and assault, along with another 10 years for criminal possession of a weapon.

Seaman stated: “The sentence imposed today, what amounts to removing this individual from society for the rest of his life, is the only appropriate response to the level of violence he exhibited.  The victims in this case will continue to live with their injuries.  The defendant will not have the opportunity to victimize others.”

The successful prosecution of Griggs was the result of meticulous investigation by the Niagara Falls Police Department, coupled with the dedicated efforts of First Assistant District Attorney Doreen Hoffmann and Assistant District Attorney Carrington Crossley.
