(WNY News Now) – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a frost advisory for several counties in Western New York, warning of potentially damaging cold temperatures from October 16 at 8 PM through the morning of October 17.
A frost advisory is in place for much of Western New York, including Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Monroe, Wayne, Northern Cayuga, Oswego, Genesee, Wyoming, Livingston, Ontario, and Chautauqua counties. The advisory, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Buffalo, will remain active from 8 PM Wednesday evening through 10 AM Thursday morning.
According to the NWS, temperatures are expected to drop into the low to mid-30s, with some of the colder valleys possibly seeing temperatures dip into the upper 20s. This significant temperature drop is likely to lead to frost formation across the region, posing a threat to sensitive outdoor vegetation.
“Frost could kill tender plants if left unprotected,” the NWS warned in its advisory. Gardeners and homeowners are encouraged to take action to protect plants, such as moving potted plants indoors to prevent frost damage.
