(WNY News Now) – A routine traffic stop in Jamestown escalated into a significant drug arrest after officers uncovered methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and an attempt to dispose of evidence.
Jamestown, N.Y. – In the early hours of October 17, 2024, at approximately 12:04 AM, the Jamestown Police Department K-9 Unit conducted a traffic stop near Harrison Street and South Main Street, leading to the arrest of Kelly A. Berenguer, a 44-year-old resident of Ashville.
During the investigation, officers found Berenguer in possession of methamphetamine, a digital scale, and a large sum of U.S. currency. Berenguer was taken into custody and transported to the Jamestown City Jail. Upon arrival, Berenguer attempted to discard packaging materials and later regurgitated a bag containing 11.2 grams of methamphetamine. A thorough search of Berenguer’s belongings revealed additional controlled substances, including pills containing Hydrocodone.
Berenguer now faces multiple charges, including Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd and 7th Degrees, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd Degree, and Tampering with Physical Evidence. Berenguer is currently held at the Jamestown City Jail, awaiting arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
