(WNY News Now) – A Lake Effect Snow Warning is in effect, with snowfall rates of up to two inches per hour creating hazardous travel conditions across parts of Western New York.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo has issued a Lake Effect Snow Warning, effective from 7:00 AM Friday, November 29, to 7:00 PM Monday, December 2. Residents in Wyoming, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Southern Erie Counties should brace for heavy snow accumulations, with localized areas experiencing multiple feet of snow in persistent snow bands.
Snowfall rates are expected to average 1 to 2 inches per hour, with higher rates possible, creating hazardous driving conditions. The most significant impacts are anticipated during Friday’s morning and evening commutes, with near-zero visibility in some areas making travel difficult or nearly impossible.
Rapidly changing weather conditions are characteristic of lake effect snow, with heavy snow and poor visibility occurring just a few miles from dry conditions.
