(WNY News Now) – ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Scott Reeves, 72, of Victor, NY, and owner of Fussy Contracting Inc., has pleaded guilty to tax evasion, U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced today. The charge carries a potential sentence of up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Reeves’ roofing business, also known as Mr. Fussy, operated from Portland Avenue in Rochester from 2017 to 2022. Despite earning significant profits during this period, Reeves failed to file both personal and corporate income tax returns. This led to a tax loss of $248,394 for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
Prosecutors revealed that Fussy Contracting generated gross receipts of $5,398,008.27 during the six-year period. After deducting material and labor expenses, along with check cashing fees, Reeves retained $1,538,215. Rather than fully depositing these earnings in business accounts, he used a local check-cashing service to obscure income and avoid taxation.
The investigation was conducted by the IRS Criminal Investigation Division, led by Acting Executive Special Agent in Charge Harry Chavis of the New York Field Office.
Reeves will be sentenced on March 3, 2025, by Chief U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford.
