(WNY News Now) – A Winter Weather Advisory issued by the National Weather Service warns of significant snowfall across Western New York, impacting travel from today through Saturday morning.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo has issued a Winter Weather Advisory effective from 7 a.m. on December 20 until 6 a.m. on December 21. Residents in Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Monroe, Genesee, Wyoming, Livingston, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Allegany counties should prepare for snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches.

Hazardous conditions are anticipated to deteriorate roadways, particularly during the evening commute. Untreated surfaces will become snow-covered and slippery, reducing visibility and increasing travel times.

Drivers are urged to exercise caution, slow down, and allow extra time for commutes. NWS advises using headlights during snow events to enhance visibility and safety.
