(WNY News Now) – A routine traffic stop in Jamestown escalated into a foot chase and the recovery of significant quantities of methamphetamine and fentanyl, resulting in serious charges for a local resident.
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — On December 30, 2024, at approximately 4:32 p.m., officers from the Jamestown Police Department’s 2nd Platoon conducted a vehicle and traffic stop near the intersection of Prendergast Avenue and Kingsbury Street. The stop was initiated after the vehicle committed multiple traffic violations.
Upon approaching the vehicle, officers made contact with the operator, 32-year-old Jamestown resident Jamal M. Jackson, who displayed signs of impairment. Officers requested Jackson to exit the vehicle, but he fled the scene on foot.
During the pursuit, Jackson discarded multiple items from his pockets. After apprehending him, officers recovered these items, which were identified as bags containing 27.2 grams of methamphetamine and 8.7 grams of fentanyl.
Jackson was transported to the City Jail, where a further search revealed a small quantity of crack cocaine in his possession.
He now faces multiple charges, including two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree, and several vehicle and traffic law violations.
Jackson is being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
