(WNY News Now) – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo, NY, has issued a Lake Effect Snow Warning, effective until 4 PM EST today, January 20.

Residents in Niagara, Orleans, and Monroe Counties should prepare for heavy lake effect snow throughout the day. The NWS forecasts an additional 4 to 8 inches of snow, with the most persistent snowfall expected north of Route 104.

Travel conditions in the affected areas are expected to be hazardous, particularly during the Monday morning commute. Reduced visibility and snow-covered roads will make driving difficult.

Lake effect snow can create highly localized weather patterns, with areas experiencing heavy snowfall just miles away from dry conditions. Drivers are advised to remain vigilant and anticipate sudden changes in weather and road conditions.

The Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect until 4 PM EST today. Residents are encouraged to monitor local weather updates and allow extra time for travel.
