(WNY News Now) – A Wind Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service for Wayne, Lewis, Livingston, Ontario, Cattaraugus, and Allegany counties, with gusty winds up to 50 mph expected to last until Tuesday morning.
The National Weather Service (NWS) Buffalo has issued a Wind Advisory for multiple counties in New York, effective from 7:00 AM on January 27 until 6:00 AM on January 28. Southwest winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected to affect the region, potentially leading to hazardous conditions.
Residents of Wayne, Lewis, Livingston, Ontario, Cattaraugus, and Allegany counties should take precautions as strong winds will be blowing through the area. These gusts could cause unsecured objects to be blown around, while tree limbs may be downed and power outages are possible.
Motorists, particularly those driving high-profile vehicles, are urged to exercise extra caution on the road, as gusty winds may make driving difficult. Drivers should be alert to sudden wind gusts, especially in areas exposed to open fields or large bodies of water. Additionally, individuals with outdoor objects, such as patio furniture or trash cans, are advised to secure them to prevent them from being blown away.
The NWS warns that these winds may also cause localized power disruptions due to downed trees and power lines. Homeowners and businesses are encouraged to prepare for potential outages and ensure emergency supplies are on hand.
The Wind Advisory is expected to last until early Tuesday morning, so residents should stay updated with local forecasts and be prepared for conditions to persist throughout the day.
