(WNY News Now) – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo has issued a Winter Weather Advisory, warning of significant snowfall and gusty winds, effective from 6 PM on January 28 through 6 PM on January 29.
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Wyoming, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Southern Erie counties, with snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches expected within a 24-hour period. Winds could gust up to 40 mph, potentially creating hazardous travel conditions.
The advisory begins this evening at 6 PM and will remain in effect until 6 PM on Wednesday, January 29. Residents are urged to anticipate challenging conditions, particularly during the morning and evening commutes on Wednesday.
According to the NWS, snow-covered roads and limited visibility may cause travel delays. Drivers are advised to reduce speeds, increase following distances, and exercise caution while navigating the region’s roadways.
The combination of snow and wind may also lead to isolated power outages. Residents are encouraged to prepare emergency supplies and stay informed about weather updates.
The NWS requests that community members report local snow conditions through their website or via social media to aid in monitoring and response efforts.
