(WNY News Now) – BUFFALO, N.Y. – A 17-year-old male from Buffalo has pleaded guilty to first-degree assault for stabbing a neighbor during a dispute, Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced.
The plea was entered before Youth Part Judge Brenda Freedman, admitting to the Class “B” violent felony.
Buffalo Police responded to the 1900 block of Seneca Street on Friday, November 1, 2024, at approximately 1:00 a.m., where the teenager stabbed a 43-year-old man with a pocket knife. The victim sustained serious injuries to his chest and abdomen, requiring surgery and several days of hospitalization at ECMC.
The defendant, who was 17 at the time, faces up to 25 years in prison when sentenced on March 19, 2025. If granted youthful offender status, the sentence could be reduced to a maximum of 1 1/3 to 4 years. He remains in custody at the Erie County Youth Services Center.
Detective Courtney Halligan and Officer Brendan Cullen of the Buffalo Police Department led the investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney James L. Harrington of the Raise the Age/Motor Vehicle Theft Insurance Fraud Unit.
