(WNY News Now) – BUFFALO, NY – February 6, 2025 – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for several Western New York counties, effective from 4:00 AM to 1:00 PM EST today. Mixed precipitation, including snow, sleet, and freezing rain, is expected to impact travel throughout the region.
Impacts and Conditions
The advisory covers Niagara, Orleans, Monroe, Wayne, Northern Cayuga, Northern Erie, and Genesee counties. A combination of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is expected to accumulate, with totals ranging from 1 to 2 inches of snow and sleet, primarily north of the New York State Thruway. Ice accumulations could reach a few hundredths of an inch.
The hazardous conditions are expected to significantly affect roadways, especially bridges and overpasses, which are prone to becoming slick more quickly. Drivers should be prepared for slippery conditions and limited visibility. The winter weather is expected to impact the Thursday morning commute, so it is important to take extra precautions when traveling.
