(WNY News Now) – BUFFALO, N.Y. – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo has issued a Wind Advisory for parts of Western and Central New York, effective from 11 p.m. tonight until 5 p.m. Sunday, March 16.

According to the advisory, south winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected across Wyoming, Livingston, Ontario, Cattaraugus, and Allegany counties. The strongest wind gusts will likely occur near and north of the higher hilltops and at the north end of the Finger Lakes.

Potential Impacts:

  • Unsecured outdoor objects may be blown around.
  • Tree limbs could be knocked down, leading to isolated power outages.
  • Driving may be hazardous, particularly for high-profile vehicles.

Safety Recommendations:

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items and use extra caution while driving. Those traveling in high-profile vehicles, such as trucks and SUVs, should remain alert to sudden wind gusts.
