(WNY News Now) – A Buffalo man has pleaded guilty in federal court to participating in a mail theft scheme that targeted collection boxes across Western New York.

BUFFALO, N.Y. – U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced Tuesday that Lamor Runell Bolden, 27, of Buffalo, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail theft, a federal offense punishable by up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Franz M. Wright, Bolden conspired with Eric Michael Robinson and Antonio Jones, Jr. to steal mail from blue collection mailboxes in Cheektowaga. The incident occurred during the early morning hours of October 2, 2024, when the trio traveled to a mail facility using a stolen key that allowed access to authorized U.S. Postal Service mail receptacles.

Robinson drove the vehicle, while Bolden and Jones were passengers. Once parked behind the mailboxes, Jones used the stolen key to open the boxes and retrieve mail while Bolden acted as a lookout. The suspects then left the scene but were stopped shortly afterward by law enforcement. Officers discovered numerous opened and unopened pieces of mail inside the vehicle.

Bolden admitted that the group used the stolen mailbox key at other locations throughout the Western District of New York.

Robinson was previously convicted and is awaiting sentencing. Charges remain pending against Jones.

The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, led by Special Agent-in-Charge Ketty Larco-Ward of the Boston Division, and the Cheektowaga Police Department, under Chief Brian Coons.

Sentencing for Bolden is set for August 13, 2025, before U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr.
