(WNY News Now) – A Buffalo man is headed to federal prison after being sentenced for trafficking heroin, fentanyl, and carrying a firearm in furtherance of drug crimes.

BUFFALO, NY — Erin Cameron, 33, of Buffalo, has been sentenced to 132 months in federal prison for drug trafficking and firearms charges, U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced Thursday.

Cameron was convicted of conspiring to possess with intent to distribute and distributing 100 grams or more of heroin and 10 grams or more of fentanyl. He was also convicted of possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking. U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr. handed down the sentence.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua A. Violanti, Cameron’s criminal activity spanned from July to December 2018. During that time, he conspired with others to distribute heroin and fentanyl in the Western New York region. He supplied co-conspirators with butyryl fentanyl for future sales and was linked to a controlled purchase conducted by investigators on October 22, 2018.

On December 30, 2018, Cameron traveled from Buffalo to Salamanca, NY, to distribute narcotics. He was carrying a pistol loaded with six rounds of ammunition along with several packages of controlled substances, including acetyl fentanyl, crack cocaine, and oxycodone. He was stopped by Salamanca Police, who recovered the firearm and drugs in his possession.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services; the Southern Tier Drug Regional Task Force under Chautauqua County Sheriff James Quattrone; the Drug Enforcement Administration under Special Agent-in-Charge Frank Tarentino, New York Field Division; and the Salamanca Police Department, led by Chief Jamie Deck.
