Berenguer receives time served and four years’ supervised release for distributing heroin and fentanyl in Jamestown
(WNY News Now) – BUFFALO, N.Y. — Holly Berenguer, 43, of Jamestown, NY, was sentenced to time served and four years of supervised release for her involvement in a drug distribution conspiracy, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo.
Berenguer was convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and to distribute, 40 grams or more of fentanyl. U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara handed down the sentence following her guilty plea.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua A. Violanti, Berenguer was arrested on September 5, 2021, by a Jamestown Police officer on an active bench warrant for failure to appear in Jamestown City Court. During processing, officers found a white powdery substance and $450 concealed in her clothing. The substance field-tested positive for heroin and methamphetamine.
Investigators determined that between September 2020 and September 2021, Berenguer participated in a conspiracy to distribute significant quantities of heroin and fentanyl throughout the Jamestown area.
The case was part of a larger Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation. OCDETF initiatives aim to dismantle high-level criminal drug networks using intelligence-led, multi-agency strategies. More information on OCDETF is available at justice.gov/OCDETF.
The investigation was conducted by the Jamestown Police Department, led by Chief Timothy Jackson, and the Drug Enforcement Administration, under Special Agent-in-Charge Frank Tarantino.
