Jury finds 31-year-old guilty in April 2024 homicide; sentencing set for April 30, 2026.
(WNY News Now) – Michael J. Keane announced that a jury has found Timé J. Thomas Jr., 31, of Buffalo, guilty of one count of Murder in the Second Degree, a Class A-I felony, in connection with a fatal shooting in the city’s Broadway-Fillmore neighborhood.

Jurors delivered their verdict after nearly one day of deliberations following a five-day trial. Thomas was convicted on the sole count of the indictment.
According to prosecutors, on Friday, April 26, 2024, at approximately 8:50 p.m., officers with the Buffalo Police Department responded to a report of a shooting near Young and Ashley streets. Upon arrival, officers located 31-year-old Quentin Sims, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Evidence presented at trial established that Thomas intentionally shot Sims multiple times, resulting in his death.
Thomas faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced before Debra Givens in State Supreme Court on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. He remains held without bail pending sentencing.
Keane commended several members of law enforcement and supporting agencies for their roles in the investigation, including detectives, crime analysts, confidential criminal investigators, and technology services staff. The investigation involved coordination with the Erie County Crime Analysis Center.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Justin H. Caldwell of the Homicide Bureau and Assistant District Attorney Rebecca A. Fioravanti of the Special Victims Unit.
