(WNY News Now) – DUNKIRK, NY — A 39-year-old Dunkirk man was taken into custody early Tuesday morning after a standoff at his Franklin Avenue residence that involved gunfire and a prolonged barricade.

The Dunkirk Police Department said Christopher M. Marcinkowski faces three counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. Additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.

Authorities reported that members of the Southern Tier Regional Task Force, including the Dunkirk Police Department, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, and Jamestown Police Department, executed a search warrant at Marcinkowski’s home around 6:25 a.m. During the operation, shots were fired by an occupant. One Dunkirk police officer was struck in the vest but sustained no serious injuries and was treated and released from Brooks Memorial Hospital.

Following hours of negotiations, Marcinkowski surrendered peacefully. He is currently being held in custody. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Dunkirk Police Department thanked all agencies involved, including the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, Jamestown Police Department, State Police, District Attorney’s Office, and local emergency and crisis teams. Community partners, including Ellman’s Garage, also assisted by providing property access, food, and water during the operation.
