(WNY News Now) – A Jamestown traffic stop on April 9, 2026, led to the arrest of a city resident after officers allegedly discovered a loaded stolen handgun during a vehicle investigation.

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — A routine traffic stop in the City of Jamestown resulted in the arrest of a 55-year-old Jamestown man facing multiple felony charges, according to the Jamestown Police Department.

On April 9, 2026, at approximately 7:45 p.m., officers assigned to the department’s Second Platoon were patrolling the northeast section of the city in the area of Winsor Street and Orchard Street when they observed a vehicle with equipment violations and a moving violation. Officers initiated a traffic stop based on the observed infractions.

During the course of the investigation, a passenger in the vehicle was identified as Chris L. Freeney, 55, a Jamestown resident. Police reported that Freeney was allegedly found to be in possession of a loaded handgun. Authorities stated that Freeney did not possess a valid New York State pistol permit.

Further investigation determined that the firearm had previously been reported stolen within the City of Jamestown.

According to police, Freeney has prior felony and misdemeanor convictions. During the arrest process, authorities reported that Freeney resisted officers, resulting in a brief struggle before he was taken into custody.

Freeney was transported to the Jamestown City Jail and is being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court.

He is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 4th Degree, and Resisting Arrest.

All charges are allegations, and Freeney is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
